On the 12th of February we set off on our first little adventure of 2015, a spur of the moment 3 night stay in the Capital city Rome. After an early morning flight of 2 hours and 15 minutes we arrived in Italy with the entire day ahead of us. We left the airport and hopped straight onto a bus that took us to 'Termini' station, a short walk from our hotel. Thankfully we was able to buy our bus tickets before boarding our plane at London Gatwick (something i would highly reccomend) as the queue was pretty hectic when we left the airport and it all got a little bit heated! Once arriving at Termini station we was able to purchase a travel card for the day that was valid for all routes and only €6! We stayed in a new apartment called 'I Love Italy' which was was clean, comfy, cosy and cheap- It also included complimentry wifi and tea and coffee supplies! We spent our first full day getting to know the city, working out the Metro routes and the best ways to get around. We visited the Colosseum, which was absolutely amazing and possibly my favourite piece of architecture to visit so far. On the Saturday we was up and out by 7:00 am with chocolate croissants and coffees in hand, heading straight for the Vatican Museum. We purchased fast past tickets that took us straight past the lengthy queue (very lengthy) of people who had been waiting for it to open the entire morning. Once inside it was clear to see why the crowds of people were forming outside, the ceiling artwork was incredible and my personal favourite was the Gallery of maps (photo above). We then went on to the Sistine Chapel...wow. To be able to stand beneath The Creation of Adam and to take sneaky picture was something else. After having some lunch we headed to our 3 hour Segway tour across the city! This was the best part of the trip, we covered all of the points of interest and were able to stop for photos and even taste some free gelato, curtesy of 'Segway fun Rome'! Returning to the room after our long day absolutely shattered, we caught up on our sleep ready to head home the next morning. If you are considering a trip to Rome or have any questions/would like some advice, please leave a comment below and I will try my best to help!
